Tahoe Basin Handyman: Why We Built a Handyman Site for Lake Tahoe

Tahoe Basin Handyman homepage: “Handyman Services Around Lake Tahoe” headline over a handyman outside a log cabin in the pines, with a Call (916) 494-8868 button and a Get a Free Handyman Quote form

Snow, freeze-thaw and second homes nobody is watching make Lake Tahoe a tough place to keep a house in shape. Here's why we built Tahoe Basin Handyman and how it's set up to bring in calls.

We keep telling trades that a website you own, built the right way, is a lead-gen asset. So we keep building them. This one is Tahoe Basin Handyman, a handyman site for the whole Lake Tahoe Basin plus Truckee, the Carson Valley, Carson City, Reno and the US-50 corridor down to Placerville.

Here's why it exists, what's on it, and how it's set up to turn searches into calls.

Why Lake Tahoe needed it

Mountain homes wear out faster than homes down in the valley. Snow load, freeze-thaw, high-altitude sun and pine needles all go to work on decks, trim, paint and doors. A loose deck board or a gap in the trim can turn into a bigger repair after a single winter.

A lot of Tahoe houses are also second homes and vacation rentals. The owner often isn't there to notice a sticky door, a drywall crack or a soft step. They need someone local who can quote the job, get in with a lockbox or code, and send photos when it's done.

That's the idea behind the site: one number and one quote form for handyman work around the lake. Tahoe Basin Handyman connects homeowners with local handymen and, when a job needs one, licensed contractors, and the owner gets a clear quote before anything starts.

What's on the site

Eight service pages

Every service gets its own page, so the site can show up for the exact job someone is searching for:

  • General home repairs: doors, hardware, caulking, small leaks and screens
  • Drywall repair for cracks, nail pops and water stains
  • Interior and exterior painting, including sun-faded siding and decks
  • Carpentry and trim
  • Deck repair: soft boards, railings, stairs and stain after winter
  • Fixture and appliance installs
  • Vacation rental and second-home maintenance
  • Snow-season prep before the first storm

Twenty-five town pages

There's a page for each town the site covers, grouped the way locals think about the lake: South Shore, the Nevada east shore, the north and west shore, Truckee and the resort areas, the Carson Valley with Carson City and Reno, and Alpine County with the US-50 west slope. That runs from South Lake Tahoe, Stateline and Incline Village to Olympic Valley, Minden, Kirkwood and Placerville.

Guides Tahoe owners actually search for

Six plain-English guides answer the questions that come before the call: how to winterize a Tahoe cabin, deck safety after a big snow year, when you need a licensed contractor instead of a handyman in California and Nevada, TRPA basics for homeowners, a vacation rental repair checklist, and a defensible space checklist for wildfire season. Each one points back to the service that fixes the problem.

How it's set up to bring in calls

  1. Phone above the fold. (916) 494-8868 sits in the header and the main button on every page, and it works with one tap on a phone.
  2. A quote form right in the hero. It asks for the town, the service, the timeline, and has an "urgent" box for leaks, damage or guests arriving soon. There's room for gate codes and notes, too.
  3. A free estimate booking calendar. Under the quote form, visitors can pick a date and time for a free estimate visit, and there's a full appointment page as well. The booking details are even published in a format AI assistants can read, so a bot can book on someone's behalf.
  4. Tagged leads. Every form email is labeled as a lead or a booking with the site name and the page it came from, so it's easy to see which pages are working.
  5. Second-home friendly copy. The site says plainly that work can happen while the owner is away, with photos and notes when it's done.
  6. Search Console verified, with the pages being sent to Google for indexing.

Why this matters for your trade

Handyman work is just one example. The same setup works for plumbers, roofers, HVAC, painters and cleaners around Reno, Sparks and Tahoe: a page for each service, a page for each town you really serve, guides that answer the questions people search before they call, a phone number nobody has to hunt for, a way to book a visit, and lead tracking so you know what's working. It's the same playbook we use for website design and local SEO at Reno Map Pros.
