Tahoe Basin Towing: Why We Built a Towing Site for Both Sides of the Lake

Lake Tahoe has two states on it, and a stranded driver shouldn't have to guess which one to call. Here's why we built Tahoe Basin Towing and how it's set up to bring in calls.
We keep telling trades that a website you own, built the right way, is a lead-gen asset. So we keep building them. This one is Tahoe Basin Towing, a 24/7 towing and roadside assistance site for South Lake Tahoe and the whole Lake Tahoe Basin, on both the Nevada and California sides.
Here's why it exists, what's on it, and how it's set up to turn searches into calls.
Why Lake Tahoe needed it
Lake Tahoe has a state line running through it. A driver stuck at Stateline, Zephyr Cove or Kings Beach often has no idea whether the tow company on the map covers Nevada, California, or both. The site's About page sums up the reason it was built: a stranded driver “shouldn't have to figure out” which side a tow company covers.
The roads add their own problems. Mountain grades on US-50 over Echo Summit, I-80 over Donner Summit, Highway 89 and the Mt. Rose Highway, cold mornings that kill batteries, storms and chain controls in winter, and plenty of visitors who are a long way from home when something goes wrong.
That's the idea behind the site: one number for the whole lake. The caller says where the vehicle needs to go, a Nevada workshop or a California address, and the request is routed to a licensed, insured local operator who already covers that area and handles the tow from pickup to drop-off.
What's on the site
Eight towing and roadside pages
Every service gets its own page, so the site can show up for the exact problem someone is searching for:
- Roadside assistance for battery, tire and fluid issues without a full tow
- Lockout service, whether it's the trailhead, the casino lot or the beach
- Jump starts for dead batteries in cold mountain temperatures
- Flat tire changes on mountain grades
- Fuel delivery on a mountain pass or a long stretch of Highway 89
- Long-distance towing back to Sacramento, Reno or the Bay Area
- Classic car towing with flatbed transport for classic, vintage, collector and exotic cars
- Accident recovery, with winching for vehicles off the road or off a mountain shoulder
The classic car page goes deeper than most. It covers soft straps and wheel nets, low-clearance loading, non-running project cars, moves to car shows, auctions and restoration shops during Reno's summer car-show season, and picking a clear-weather window to get a classic over the passes.
Seventeen town pages across two states
On the Nevada side there are pages for Stateline, Zephyr Cove, Glenbrook, Genoa, Incline Village, Crystal Bay, Carson City, Gardnerville and Minden. On the California side there are South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Tahoma, Tahoe City, Kings Beach, Homewood, Camp Richardson and Truckee. The homepage splits them into a Nevada column and a California column, so a driver can find their spot in a couple of seconds.
How it's set up to bring in calls
- Phone above the fold. (916) 494-8868 sits in the header, the hero and the footer, with 24/7 dispatch called out, and it works with one tap on a phone. For towing, most people call, so the number comes first.
- A tow request form on every page. It asks the one question that matters for routing, Nevada or California, plus the name, phone, current location, the vehicle and what's going on.
- A booking calendar. Under the request form, visitors can schedule a tow or an estimate by date and time, and there's a full appointment page as well. The booking details are published in a format AI assistants can read, so a bot can book on someone's behalf.
- Tagged leads. Every form email is labeled as a lead or a booking with the site name and the page it came from, so it's easy to see which pages are working.
- Tow truck structured data and an llms.txt file listing every service and town, so Google and AI search tools understand who the site is for.
- Search Console set up, with the pages being sent to Google for indexing.
Why this matters for your trade
Towing is just one example. The same setup works for plumbers, roofers, HVAC, electricians, cleaners and handymen around Reno, Sparks and Tahoe: a page for each service, a page for each town you really serve, a phone number nobody has to hunt for, a form that asks only what you need to take the job, a way to book, and lead tracking so you know what's working. It's the same playbook we use for website design and local SEO at Reno Map Pros.
